Rock and Roll Heart

Cleaning out the garage
Found my old 45s
(all trashed of course)
Picked up “Sincerely” by the Moonglows
Thought of you.

Corona Del Mar summer party
You were entering Newport High
We talked and laughed
Danced to “Sincerely”
My heart thumped.

You were
My first real girlfriend
I didn’t know how to act
Neither did you
We figured it out.

I went off to Stanford
Sadly
We drifted apart
Our parents thought we were too young
They were probably right.

Nonetheless
Deep in my memory vault
Lies a safe-deposit box
Filled with love for you.
